What Path Will You Choose?

Okay, so what would we work on?

When presented with a coaching opportunity some clients know exactly where they want to start, others aren’t so sure.  Neither way is right/wrong/better or worse.  We will start our coaching relationship wherever you want.  Remember, this is all about you and your personal growth! Regardless of where you are, here are some exercises to help ‘jumpstart’ or ‘clarify’ your thinking.  You do not need to complete them, they are here simply as catalysts for your thinking process.  If you choose to join me in a coaching relationship, we can spend our first visit together exploring your personal areas of growth and development.

Tolerations - Personal or Professional:

Make a list of things you are 'putting up with'; things you would like to eliminate from your life.  What kinds of things might this be?

Personal Tolerations:

  • A desk (or perhaps even a house!) full of stacks of papers
  • Being overweight
  • Excessive clutter
  • Not saving money every month
  • Not sticking to an exercise routine
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Spending too much time surfing the internet
  • Not paying bills on time
  • Needy relatives I allow to unnerve me
  • The inability to say 'no'
  • Inability to focus on a task and complete it
  • Putting everyone else's needs before my own
  • Procrastination

Professional Tolerations:

  • Competitive team members not willing to work together and get the job done
  • Co-Workers or employees always interrupting my work
  • Missing project deadlines
  • Working more and more hours, but not getting more work done
  • A boss who micro-manages
  • Inability to focus on the job at hand
  • Not holding employees accountable for their work, which leaves me with more work
  • Avoiding conflict, but feeling stressed because I don't deal with it
  • Inability to make a timely decision

Together we will explore any of your tolerations, their impact in your life, and create a plan to move beyond these.  Think of the energy this could free up!

Shoulds:
What do you think you should be doing right now, personally and professionally?  Most of us have lots of shoulds; shoulds that may or may not be holding us back.  Make a list of them and then review how many of them are ‘your’ shoulds or shoulds you have allowed ‘someone else’ to give you.

Personal Shoulds:
  • I should be making more money
  • I should have a cleaner house
  • I should be more patient
  • I should drop 10-15 pounds
  • I should stop trying to control things and/or people
  • I should be volunteering my time
  • I should exercise more
  • I should be working less hours and spending more time with my family
Professional Shoulds:
  • I should be able to manage my time better
  • I should be at a higher grade or pay level
  • I should be better able to balance work and home
  • I should take more responsible risks rather than always playing it safe
  • I should have better working relationships with my clients
  • I should delegate more
  • I should be moving up the corporate ladder quicker than I am

If you want to make sure the shoulds dominating your life are your own, let’s work together on this!

Frustrations:
What are the five things frustrating you right now about yourself, your life, your work, others?

Desires:
What do you really want in your personal or professional life?  What is the goal you have given up on or put off for a while, due to circumstances?

Whether you want to work on personal development or development within your professional life, together we can explore where you are, where you want to be and strategize a plan to move you forward.  Why waste more time simply thinking about what you want to be different...decide now is the time to invest in yourself and make the change or changes you want.

These are just some examples of areas for focus.
Together we will:

  • Discover new possibilities
  • Solve problems
  • Make decisions
  • Design action plans
  • Reach goals
  •

    Back to the top, please!
